What Should I Major In: Choosing What to Study in College
You’re not the only one struggling to decide what you should major in as you begin choosing colleges to apply to. Nearly 1/3 of students in associate and bachelor degree programs will change their majors within 3 years of enrolling. About 10% will change their minds more than once, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
But there are some simple ways to make the decision easier. Exercises like just thinking about what you like to do in your free time, what you would choose to do with no restrictions like salary. You should also think about the types of working environments appeal to you. Is it important for you to be outside or do you want to work in an office? There are also career aptitude tests that can give you a glimpse of how your skills and interests apply to specific career paths.
Choosing a college major can be challenging for many students. But by taking some time to consider your interests, ideal lifestyle and professional goals, you can find a major that will set you up for long-term success.
